Let’s put on a show
Keep them distracted
They never must know
We’ve schemed in the shadows
Designed to deceive
Preying on hearts
And all they believe
We’ll weave our stories
Cloak them in glories
Claim we are fighting
For justice and righting
The wrongs they are committing
In ways most befitting
While we in our cabals
Steal more than we show
Take all they despise
And spin it as treasure
Make them believe
It’s their deepest-held pleasure
Twist it in tangles
Give them more angles
Paths so complex
They can’t see the strangle
But here comes the fun part
Behind velvet curtains
We’re one single family
Growing uncertain
It’s only a shell game
Hellfire with no name
Where nobody loses
As fingers fling blame
It is the old trust game
They lean and they fall
Thinking we’ll catch them
Believing it all
Judas is smiling
Paradise gilded
Timelines aligned
Our fortunes are builded
Winners make losers
Who think they’re the choosers
Of glory and justice
Those poor fools still trust us
Tell them it’s shaking
Democracy’s breaking
While we sip champagne
And plot our campaign
Whiskey and watches
Cigars lines of cane
Velvet and diamonds
We dance on their pain
Most never see it
They live it they breathe it
Reading our papers
Repeating our names
Keep them just hungry
Enough to control
Scarcity clawing
At each weary soul
Tithe us we’ll guard you
Defy us we’ll blind you
What’s yours is now ours
Allies in disguise
Dramas keep rolling
With panic and scolding
War feeds our pockets
Their lives our supplies
We shake them we break them
When weak we forsake them
Outlaw their grieving
Imprison dissent
Silence objections
Crush insurrections
Keep them all sleeping
Or fearful hell-bent
Keep this between us
Them so helpless they need us
Their role is to serve us
And think it reversed
Party lines we draw them well
Their truths are buried where we dwell
The ordered world’s cracked old bell knelled
Our partners woke when darkness fell
And still they ask what tales we tell
They’ll never know the end
